Professor Brian Cox is a well-known Physicist and Television Personality who teaches at the University of Manchester.
Brian lives near to Oldham, a Town in the North West of England in the U.K. famous for its former Cotton Mills and Oldham Athletic Football Club. One of our members lived near to this Town and for a time worked in the Textile Manufacturing and Engineering Industries. An artist L.S.Lowry painted the Cotton Mills and Matchstick folk, depicting those people who lived worked and played there. Due to the cool wet climate Cotton and Woollen Mills were sited in this North West Region. In addition to Cotton production, Raw Wool imported from Australia blended with man-made fibres was made into cloth. Coloured Dyes were applied to the cloth at Dye Works, in the West Riding of Yorkshire a few miles from the Oldham and Saddleworth area.
Enrico Fermi (1901-1954) is considered to be the architect of the nuclear age.
Enrico Fermi was initiated into Masonic Lodge "Adriano Lemmi" in Italy in 1924. In 1938 Enrico Fermi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. Fermi relocated to the USA in 1939 to escape new racial laws that affected his wife. Enrico Fermi is also known for "The Fermi Paradox"; the discrepancy between the lack of conclusive evidence of advanced extraterrestrial life and the high probability of its existence.
